5 Social Media Strategies to Increase Membership of Your Golf Club

Are you trying to come up with ways to increase your golf club's membership? Our social media expert has 5 great tips for using social media strategies to increase your club's membership...

Keeping membership sign-ups rolling in at a good clip means you have to be smart these days — digitally smart. To attract more members and keep them coming back, you’ll need to enlist the help of social media platforms.

Social Media is Your Golf Club’s Best Friend

Social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn have huge potential for engaging possible new members for your golf club. There is, however, no one-size-fits-all solution to the art of social media marketing. Every golf club is different, which means every marketing plan and the tactics employed to carry it out will be unique, too.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any general guidelines to follow. Here are five social media strategies to help increase golf club membership.

Social Media Strategy #1: Promote Giveaways

This strategy is simple: choose an item from your Pro Shop and hold a sweepstakes for a giveaway. The trade works like this: people have to visit your Facebook page in order to sign up. They’ll also have to give their email address, so the bonus is that you get to increase your email list. Once you get them on that list, you’re just a few email campaigns away from more membership sign-ups.

Social Media Strategy #2: Drive Event Participation

Every golf club has events — tournaments, charity events, holiday events, and more. Promote them heavily on social media to drum up excitement and develop the notion that your club is a major social hub for your town. An increase in membership enrollments should follow.

Social Media Strategy #3: Build Awareness Through Email

What good is a social media campaign if nobody knows about it? You should always be looking for ways to increase awareness of your social media pages in order to build followers and increase engagement. One good way is through email.

Hopefully you have an email list. And hopefully you send out regular email newsletters to everyone on that list. Let’s just assume you are. In each email you create, include social media buttons so readers can click through to your Facebook page, Twitter account, or LinkedIn pages. It works like a multiplier for any membership drives you may initiate on your social media accounts.

Social Media Strategy #4: Promote Your Club to Entice Guests to Visit

If you can harness your inner photographer and if you can produce content that makes your golf club look and sound exciting, you may be able to harness social media to garnish a few real live visitors.

It doesn’t hurt to think of the occasional post as a brochure for your golf club. ‘Occasional’ because not every post should be self-promotional. Photos of happy groups of friends and family enjoying themselves on the course or at the clubhouse can speak volumes and entice people to want to see for themselves what a great time can be had.

Social Media Strategy #5: Tap Into Golfers’ Needs & Desires

Golfers are usually a pretty social bunch. They’re looking to make friends on the links but also online, where they can share information about gear, courses, tips, and more. If you make your social media pages a great resource for them, they’ll visit your pages often. Eventually, it will sink in that your golf club is not only a great resource, but also a great place to play the sport. Memberships will rise.

A Final — Yet Very Important — Word

Social media like these, that may send traffic to your website, can do wonders to increase membership of your golf club. But don’t let all that hard work turn to naught with a website that’s not up to par.

To get the most out of your social media strategies, you’ll need to ensure that your website is fast-loading, works on mobile, and is easy to navigate. All easier said than done, but now you know what your next set of goals might be!
