Chris Wilcyznski Designs New Course for Astor Creek Golf & Country Club
Construction has started on a new golf course, designed by Chris Wilczynski, at Astor Creek Golf & Country Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Wilczynski was appointed by real estate developer Kolter Homes, beginning design work in April 2021. His plan includes an 18-hole course, a driving range, a three-acre short-game area and a large putting green. The new course will feature wide corridors, allowing homes within the private residential community of Port St. Lucie to enjoy long views of the course.
“We’re essentially striving to create a golfer’s utopia from a dead-flat piece of property that was once a citrus farm,” said Wilczynski. “We’ll be moving nearly 850,000 cubic yards of soil excavated from lakes to create the dimension and character of the course then layer in a variety of Florida vegetation – primarily oaks, palms, pines and native grasses to accentuate its lines, give it texture, and colour.”
Wilcynski is being supported on the project by Ryan Golf, Atwell Group, Thomas Engineering Group, Cotleur & Hearing, A.S. Altum & Associates and Hampton Golf.
“Our vision is for golfers to enjoy a blend of tranquility and ease of playability,” said Wilczynski. “We’re designing a course for today’s golfer – one who loves beauty and a challenge and wants to have fun.”
The course is scheduled to open in 2023.
